Traffic Jam or Alternative route. What will you do?
The campaign ‘Vaststaan of meebewegen. Wat doe jij?’ [Traffic Jam or Alternative Route. What will you do?] as part of Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar encourages and guides road users to find out what they can do themselves to avoid traffic jams and minimise disruption during the numerous roadworks. Road users can use Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar for information on alternatives to driving, as well as for tips and discounts.
Using the ReisWijs app, for example, you’re rewarded with gift vouchers and points when you travel by alternative means or work from home. Anyone who lives or works in South Holland may participate for free.
Employers and logistics operators can also use Zuid-Holland Bereikbaar for advice and tips on mobility, regulations and more efficient logistics.
Renewal and replacement
Good infrastructure allows us greater freedom of movement. Over the coming years, we will be busy renovating and replacing existing roads, tunnels, bridges and viaducts, including in South Holland. Much of our infrastructure is actually quite old, having been built in the 1950s and 1960s.
Meanwhile, the population has grown, traffic has become heavier, and vehicles are larger. We must also take into account more extreme weather conditions, such as heat-waves, flooding or droughts. This modernisation will require a great deal of work over the coming years. Unfortunately, this will inevitably cause some disruption and inconvenience.
Staying mobile
Ultimately, there’s a good reason for doing all this work: a well-maintained infrastructure gives us freedom of movement. This is crucial for work, study, trade, holidays, visiting family, and supplying our shops and hospitals. By investing in our roads, viaducts, tunnels and bridges, we are and will continue to be a strong nation that stays mobile smoothly and safely.
