The Port of Rotterdam Authority is transferring Routescanner, the digital platform for comparing and planning container transport, to Royal Dirkzwager, a provider of maritime information and data solutions. This move will give Routescanner the scope to continue growing as an international technology platform within a specialised data and software environment.

Routescanner was established by the Port of Rotterdam Authority' in 2017 and has since been developed to improve transparency and efficiency in container transport. The platform provides users with an overview of multimodal transport options by allowing them to easily compare routes, transport providers, transit times and CO2 emissions, thereby helping to facilitate smarter and more sustainable choices in logistics.

The transfer to Royal Dirkzwager is in line with the Port of Rotterdam Authority's strategy of developing innovations and then having them scaled up by market players. Royal Dirkzwager brings extensive expertise in the field of maritime data and digital platforms, including Ship2Port, which opens up new opportunities for the further development and international roll-out of Routescanner.

Vivienne de Leeuw, CFO of Port of Rotterdam Authority: “With Routescanner, we have built a valuable platform that contributes to transparency and sustainability in the supply chain. We are confident that Routescanner is in good hands at Royal Dirkzwager for its further development.”

The combination of Routescanner and Ship2Port creates a highly complementary product. Whilst Ship2Port provides real-time insights into ship movements, port calls and operational planning in ports, Routescanner adds a layer for planning and optimising hinterland transport. Together, these platforms enable end-to-end supply chain visibility, from the vessel’s arrival right through to onward transport inland. This helps users to plan more effectively, improve efficiency and make more sustainable choices.

Joan Blaas, CEO of Royal Dirkzwager: “The combination of Routescanner and Ship2Port enables us to provide clients with a comprehensive overview of the supply chain. From the coast to the hinterland, we can predict, plan and optimise more effectively.”

Routescanner’s operations will remain based in Rotterdam. Some of the staff will be moving to Royal Dirkzwager. For clients and partners, this means that the existing Routescanner features will be retained and will be further strengthened, expanded and developed under the auspices of Royal Dirkzwager.
